Nintendo just dropped some insane news during their latest Direct. We’re getting a brand new 2D Zelda game called Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, and it’s set to release this September on the Switch. Yeah, you heard me right, a fresh Zelda adventure, but the difference is that Princess Zelda is the star this time around.
Finally, after all these years of rescuing her, we play as Zelda herself. How cool is that? The game’s art style? It’s got that same charm as the 2019 Link’s Awakening remake. If you loved that look, you’re in for a visual treat.
Now, let’s talk gameplay because this is where things get spicy. Zelda wields a new item called the Tri Rod. This bad boy lets her duplicate objects she finds in the game world. Tables, boxes, enemies, or else, she can make an echo of it. Need to reach a high platform? Duplicate a box. Want some backup in a fight? Duplicate an enemy. It’s pretty funny but also good-looking.
Eiji Aonuma, the series producer, had some bold words: “We’ve created a game in which each player’s experience will be different.” Different how, you ask? Well, it sounds like the game’s gonna be all about using Zelda’s wisdom to solve puzzles and save Hyrule from some weird rifts that are snatching people away, including a certain famous swordsman.
Zelda teams up with a mysterious fairy named Tri. With Tri’s help and the power of the Tri Rod, you can create echoes – imitations of things in the environment. You can use these echoes to solve puzzles, fight enemies, and explore new areas. Imagine creating echoes of water blocks to reach new heights, making bridges out of old beds, or throwing rocks at foes. You can even create echoes of monsters to fight by your side. It’s like Zelda’s own little army of shadow clones.
Mark your calendars, folks. Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom drops on September 26. And guess what? They’re also releasing a special Zelda edition Nintendo Switch Lite. So, if you’ve been looking for an excuse to grab a new console, this might be it.
