Larian Studios is actively studying user-made interface work from Baldur’s Gate 3 as it builds its next CRPG, Divinity, design lead Nick Pechenin said in a recent AMA.
Pechenin confirmed the team is “taking notes on all of the UI mods” and added that while the studio’s UI team “worked very hard to bring the complexity of an open world DnD adventure to videogame format,” there were still changes left on the cutting room floor. “We had more improvements in mind that we just couldn’t cram into our releases,” he wrote in the thread on Reddit.
That attention makes sense. The most popular Baldur’s Gate 3 mod on NexusMods is a UI-focused overhaul and has been downloaded almost eight million times on the site. If players have built better ways to manage inventories, party screens, or combat UI, Larian now has those designs to study while shaping Divinity‘s systems.
Pechenin’s candor is a reminder that modern studios often look at community work for practical fixes. Making BG3’s UI moddable appears to have paid off twice: it let players tailor the experience and gave Larian a repository of proven ideas to consider for future titles. The studio’s broader post-release conversation continues. Studio head Swen Vincke has recently teased follow-ups to Baldur’s Gate 3 work, including a lighthearted comment about putting beaches back into future games. CPG wrote about Vincke’s comment.
For players who rely on specific UI mods, the news means Larian has likely seen the tools they depend on and may adopt similar ideas officially in Divinity or future updates.
