Tomb Raider Catalyst, the next major Lara Croft adventure for PS5, appears to be moving from its previously announced 2027 window to 2028. The revised timing was mentioned by Amazon general manager of gaming Jeffrey Gattis, although Amazon and Crystal Dynamics have not officially confirmed a delay.
The apparent delay also means both of the recently announced Tomb Raider projects may arrive later than first planned. Tomb Raider: Catalyst was announced at The Game Awards alongside Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, which was originally targeting 2026. Legacy of Atlantis will now arrive on February 12, 2027.
Gattis revealed the potential change during an interview with The Game Business. Discussing Amazon’s two Tomb Raider projects, he said, “Atlantis comes February 12 next year, and then we’ll follow on in 2028 with the next one.”
What to expect from Tomb Raider Catalyst
Catalyst is being developed with Unreal Engine 5 and will take Lara to Northern India. The story follows her attempt to uncover a secret buried beneath the region while rival treasure hunters pursue the same power. The game is also described as a sequel to 2008’s Tomb Raider: Underworld.
Crystal Dynamics is leading development, with Amazon Games publishing. Before Catalyst arrives, Amazon will publish Legacy of Atlantis, a reimagining of the original Tomb Raider developed by Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog.
As Video Games Chronicle reported, neither Amazon nor Crystal Dynamics has announced a revised release date for Catalyst. Gattis may have disclosed an unannounced delay, or he may have misspoken during the interview, so 2027 remains the game’s last official target. Specific details about the eventual release date, physical editions, and pricing have not been provided.
