The Nintendo Switch 2 launched on June 5, 2025, and quickly made waves by becoming Nintendo’s fastest-selling hardware worldwide, moving over 3.5 million units in just four days. While the console brings some graphical and performance upgrades, there has been plenty of curiosity about how it compares to other current-generation machines.
In an interview with Wccftech, Wild Hearts S producer Takuto Edagawa shared some thoughts on the Switch 2’s raw computing power. When asked if the new Switch felt closer to the PS4 or Xbox Series S, Edagawa said it’s tricky to generalize because computing power has many aspects. However, he told the Switch 2 is more comparable to the Xbox Series S than the PS4.
He didn’t reveal specific details about development kits, resolution targets, or frame rates for the Switch 2 version, but he did mention a challenge his team faced. Increasing multiplayer from three to four players put extra strain on processing, which wasn’t solely about the console’s power. The team’s focus on a detailed character creation feature added complexity, making the additional player a notable hurdle.
Interestingly, the Switch 2 supports the PS5 DualSense controller, offering players more options for their gaming setup.
What do you think about Koei Temco’s view that the Switch 2 is closer in power to the Xbox Series S than the PS4? Is this a fair comparison?
