Kingdom Hearts 4 Will Take Sora to Pixar’s Coco World in Late 2027

A D23 trailer confirmed the Land of the Dead as a new destination, showed Sora wearing Día de los Muertos-inspired face paint, and confirmed a late-2027 PC launch.

Kingdom Hearts 4 will take Sora to Pixar’s Coco setting when the next mainline entry launches in late 2027. A D23 trailer confirmed the Land of the Dead as a new destination, while Pixar confirmed the reveal in an X post dated August 15, 2026.

The announcement came during the D23 Kingdom Hearts presentation, which was billed as a 25th-anniversary deep dive into the series. The new in-engine trailer showed Sora with face paint inspired by Día de los Muertos, matching the visual identity of the 2017 Pixar film.

The KINGDOM HEARTS IV | D23 2026 Showcase Trailer is available below.

Sora will visit Coco’s Land of the Dead

The new world gives Kingdom Hearts 4 another distinct Disney and Pixar setting to pair with its more realistic version of modern-day Tokyo. It is also the first Disney world revealed for the game. Sora’s next adventure is still bringing familiar faces along for the journey, with Donald Duck, Goofy, and Mickey Mouse appearing in the latest trailer.

The Coco reveal also gives Sora a Keyblade built around guitars, bones, marigolds, and sugar skulls, carrying the film’s visual style into combat. The footage shows Miguel performing on stage while Sora battles Shadows, and later brings Sora, Miguel, and Hector together in a fight. Beyond the new world, the trailer clarifies Sora’s situation in the new game. He wakes up in Quadratum, an unfamiliar world, and searches for a way home, while Donald and Goofy travel to the Underworld, where they bother Hades in the Hercules setting while looking for a clue that could lead them to Sora. Mickey Mouse also receives his first proper in-game look in the footage.

The Coco reveal also shows that the series is continuing to add new worlds even as it moves into a more grounded setting. Sora’s face paint provides one of the clearest visual links between the game and the Mexican holiday traditions that inspired Coco.

Kingdom Hearts 4’s combat will mix magic and Keyblade abilities

Combat will combine physical attacks and magic, with Sora able to create new combos during battles. The footage also shows fast movement and team-up attacks. Players can also change the Keyblade he uses, and each weapon comes with its own attacks, opening up different approaches to encounters.

Kingdom Hearts 4 has a late 2027 release window

The trailer confirmed a late 2027 launch, but it did not provide a specific day or month. Another trailer shown during a Nintendo Direct confirmed that the game will launch simultaneously on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, while the PC version is also planned for late 2027.

Players can already add the game to their wishlists on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with PC wishlists available through Steam and the Epic Games Store.

That leaves fans with a release window rather than a precise date, but the Coco world gives them a new part of Sora’s journey to look forward to while development continues.
