Double Fine and Xbox announced Kiln on January 22, 2026. The project is an online team-based party brawler that mixes a pottery creation tool with multiplayer matches and is confirmed for release on PlayStation 5 in Spring 2026.
Gameplay begins at the pottery wheel. Players shape a ceramic pot, choose decorations, and refine its form. Once finished, the pot becomes a playable character. The pot’s shape and decorations determine its vessel type and give it distinct movement behaviors and attacks.
The core competitive mode is called Quench. Two teams race to extinguish the opposing team’s kiln by hauling water across the map and pouring it into the target. Players must scoop water with their pot characters and survive enemy attacks while crossing dangerous areas. Opponents can break or stun carriers to stop deliveries.
As matches progress, players unlock additional ways to create and customize pots. Those unlocks change visual appearance and can affect the vessel classification that determines in-match behavior. The announcement included a trailer and a second gameplay video that show the pottery creation interface, vessel classes, and examples of Quench matches.
