Kena: Scars of Kosmora will launch in 2027, giving Ember Lab more time to polish the larger adventure. The studio announced the new window in an October 1 post on the PlayStation Blog. The game will be available on PS5 in physical and digital formats, and on PC digitally.
Ember Lab describes the sequel as a character-focused linear adventure with a broader scope than 2021’s Kena: Bridge of Spirits, including more to find away from the main path. The studio first introduced the game with a February announcement trailer. Its new overview sets up an island where Kena’s work as a Spirit Guide will bring her face to face with both its history and its living communities.
Before the story begins, Kena has spent years acting as a warrior and spiritual healer. When the dead cannot move on peacefully, their pain takes the form of Corruption that infects the environment, and Spirit Guides fight through it to reach the source. Kena has helped others confront their pain, but has not always faced her own. Her childhood friend Orfio believes Kosmora may hold answers for them both, prompting Kena to travel there and learn more about her past and future as a Spirit Guide.
The island’s ancient Spirit Guides followed their own traditions, built around four elements and Alchemystic Temples. Four interconnected cultures once thrived there before a mysterious cataclysm destroyed one. The surviving cultures still draw on the elements, but their spiritual meaning has faded and much of the older wisdom remains buried. Kosmora’s temples will serve as dungeons, challenging players and rewarding them with discoveries that help Kena’s journey.
Kosmora is more than a record of the past. Its regions have living cultures with their own histories, values, and struggles, and Kena will have to adapt as she meets their people and learns how the island’s history affects them.
A crystalline canine spirit will help her travel through the larger world. The companion can fight alongside Kena both mounted and on foot, assist with Alchemystic puzzles, and is tied to the island’s origins.
