Rush Hour 4 is still in the works, but Jackie Chan is sounding the alarm: they must hurry before he and Chris Tucker get too old to pull off the iconic roles. It’s been over 15 years since the last movie, and fans have waited forever for news.
Chan originally starred as Chief Inspector Lee in the 1998 classic Rush Hour, alongside Chris Tucker’s Detective James Carter. The buddy-cop action flick was a huge success, spawning two sequels and raking in nearly $850 million worldwide. Despite that, updates on the fourth installment have been pretty rare.
In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Chan was pretty blunt when asked about the status of Rush Hour 4. He said, “I don’t know. Ask the director, ask the studio, ask the writer. Hurry up! Otherwise, Chris Tucker and I will be 100 years old. We’ll be old men doing Rush Hour.”
He’s still on board and also wants to make another Shanghai Knights movie with Owen Wilson. “The script is still going on. I want to do a Rush Hour 4,” Chan added, showing he’s all in for more action and laughs.
One tricky part is the director situation. Brett Ratner, who directed the first three movies, will unlikely return after serious allegations surfaced against him in 2017. That leaves the studio with a big question mark.
Chris Tucker seemed fired up about the project back in 2018, telling ESPN’s The Plug podcast that “It’s happening. This is gonna be the rush of all rushes. Jackie is ready and we want to do this so that people don’t ever forget it.” So the energy’s there, but the pace is slow.
There were rumors in 2019 about a female-led reboot of Rush Hour, but that either never took off or was quietly canceled. Fans seem to want the original duo back, though. Who wouldn’t?
Honestly, can you imagine Jackie and Chris trying to pull off those stunts at 100 years old? Yikes! It’s kinda hilarious but also a little scary. What do you think? Should they rush this movie out before age catches up? Or would you prefer a fresh take?
