Infinity Ward Says Modern Warfare 4’s TTK Is Near Its Goal, but Players Still Want Faster Fights

JGOD put the close-range TTK for base automatic weapons at roughly 300ms and called the latest nerfs heavy-handed.

Infinity Ward says the time-to-kill (TTK) in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is now much closer to its intended target after the beta’s latest weapon pass. A large part of the player base disagrees, with complaints that gunfights take too long and weapons no longer feel satisfying.

In the MW4 Beta patch notes, Infinity Ward said it had reviewed player feedback and gameplay data from the weekend. “We feel that TTK on average is much closer to where we wanted it to be after Weekend 1,” the studio wrote.

Infinity Ward added that individual weapons could still receive further tuning. The latest changes were intended to help each weapon class fill its role without leaving guns too weak at longer distances.

The changes followed the Weekend 2 update, which adjusted every weapon while aiming to give players more survivability. That pass appears to have solved one problem for the studio while creating another for players who preferred the faster gunfights from the beta’s first weekend.

Player reactions remain split after Weekend 2

JGOD offered one of the clearest criticisms of the new balance. He put the close TTK for base automatic weapons at around 300ms and said high headshot damage was the biggest problem during Week 1. From his perspective, the later nerfs went too far.

Doughnuts took an even harsher view, arguing that weapons that had felt powerful and satisfying during the first weekend became weak and unsatisfying after Weekend 2. He shared those concerns in an August 31 reaction.

The backlash is not universal. XpertFusion said he was happy with the current TTK, although he also wanted quicker base sprint speeds and additional movement changes in his response. Other players focused on body-shot requirements and hit registration, with one Reddit comment claiming that some Kastov kills required five body hits.

For now, Infinity Ward has not treated the balance as finished. The MW4 beta will end on Sept. 1 at 10 a.m. PT, leaving the studio more than a month to review the feedback and make further adjustments before Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled to launch on Oct. 23.
