Hunt: Showdown 1896 has received Update 2.4.0.1, featuring some important adjustments to combat mechanics and several bug fixes to smooth out the player experience. If you’ve been noticing some quirks with the Water Devil or odd crashes, this patch might fix a few of those issues.
The update modifies how the Water Devil handles damage from melee attacks and throwing knives, aligning it more closely with the changes introduced in Update 2.3. Interestingly, the Water Devil will now take a bit more damage from single-projectile weapons such as Compact, Medium, Long, and Special Nitro Ammo, as well as the Hunting Bow, Crossbow, and Slug. Fire and incendiary ammo still don’t do much against this creature, so you might want to rethink your strategy if you were hoping to burn it down quickly.
For those who had unlocked The Skinned hunter, good news: they’re available for recruitment again. It’s a nice touch for players who enjoy switching up their roster.
On the fixes front, the update tackles a few pesky problems. Some rare crashes that were difficult to reproduce have been addressed, which should improve overall stability. There was a glitch causing players to get stuck in a loop on the Mission Summary screen, which has now been sorted out. Another curious bug, where you could hear hunter footsteps when NPC enemies walked on red or yellow leaf surfaces, has been fixed, though grunt enemies remain an exception for now.
Other fixes include correcting an incorrect weapon variant listed for the “The Ghost of Blanchett Graves” DLC, stopping the contract selection screen from appearing every time the game starts, and preventing the Water Devil from detecting players using the Shadow Trait. That last one might be a relief for those who prefer a sneaky approach.
