HoYoverse’s Rumored “The Weavers” Could Bring a Grittier Action RPG to Consoles and PC

HoYoverse may be working on a very different kind of action RPG. A project currently known as The Weavers is reportedly in development for consoles and PC, with leaked material pointing toward a darker and more grounded direction than the studio’s best-known games.

The developer is best known for Genshin Impact, Zenless Zone Zero, and Honkai: Star Rail, all of which use heavily stylized anime-inspired presentations. The Weavers appears to take the opposite approach, with the available screenshots showing a bleak fantasy world dominated by gray and brown tones.

Several leaked gameplay clips have also surfaced, although they only offer brief pieces of the project rather than a complete look at how it plays. Many of the screenshots have circulated through Reddit, adding to the growing amount of unconfirmed material surrounding the game.

The Weavers’ combat recalls several action RPGs

Based on the clips available so far, the combat appears to include elements familiar from several popular action RPGs. The footage has been compared to the deliberate encounters of Souls games, the monster-focused battles of Monster Hunter, and the freeform fantasy combat associated with Dragon’s Dogma.

The world structure remains unclear. Some footage makes The Weavers look open-world, while other interpretations suggest it could use a series of larger open zones instead. The project does appear to be fairly far along, but HoYoverse has not said when it will present the game publicly.

Until an official reveal arrives, The Weavers remains a leaked project rather than a formally announced HoYoverse release. Still, a grounded fantasy action RPG from the studio would mark a sharp change from the colorful worlds that built its reputation.
