How to unlock Megabonk’s Desert level, and what you need to do first

The Desert in Megabonk unlocks after specific character and weapon requirements plus a Forest Tier 2 progression step on PC.

Megabonk’s Desert level is locked by default, but you can open it without much headache if you follow a few straightforward steps. This applies to the PC build, which launched on September 18, 2025 and is verified for Steam Deck.

How Megabonk’s levels work

There are two levels in the game, Forest and Desert. Each level has three tiers, and higher tiers increase difficulty and add more map stages. Tier 2 adds an extra stage after the boss, and Tier 3 includes a total of three stages.

Steps to unlock the Desert

First, unlock the CL4NK character. That requires unlocking the Revolver weapon and killing 7,500 enemies. After that, play as CL4NK on Forest Tier 2. Defeat the first boss in the stage, then enter the portal to reach the second section inside Forest Tier 2. Doing that will trigger a notification confirming you’ve unlocked the Desert.

What to expect in Desert

The Desert plays differently from the Forest. It’s open and flatter, with fewer rolling hills and more space. Enemies and interactable objects here are used for quests that unlock more characters, weapons, and tomes. The Desert boss is Lil’ Anubis. His signature attack is a rotating circle of beams you need to dodge, so be ready to kite and position carefully.

Megabonk was released on PC on September 18, 2025. It’s listed as developed and published by vedinad, and the Steam build is verified for the Steam Deck. You can find Megabonk on Steam. Want some quick motivation to dive back into the game? If you liked the Vampire Survivors vibe, streams from creators like Shroud helped push Megabonk into the spotlight and it’s easy to see why it’s so addictive.

Tell us if you’ve unlocked Desert and how your runs went. Drop tips in the comments and follow us on X and Bluesky. I want to hear your CL4NK builds and Lil’ Anubis dodges!
