Hideo Kojima told attendees at Kojima Productions’ Beyond the Strand 10th Anniversary showcase that he wants to “scan a ghost” into OD, and joked he would like to win an award for doing it. The comment followed a new gameplay trailer that leaned into the photorealistic horror the studio has been building.
During the presentation, Kojima said the team has been scanning real locations to recreate scenes featured in the trailer, and that he plans to travel “all over the world where [there] are scary kinds of places.” He added he wants to “scan a ghost for the first time” and then get an award for doing so. GamesRadar+ reported on the remarks and the studio’s follow-up steps, which included a visit to a shrine with the Microsoft team after a peculiar cracking sound was recorded in the studio, a move Kojima said was to make sure their build of the game was safe.
The Beyond the Strand showcase included a new gameplay trailer for OD, and Kojima also used the event to give an update on other projects tied to the studio. covered the trailer and related announcements in its recap, and the site links to additional Kojima updates, including a progress note on Physint and news that A24’s Death Stranding film will tell an original story. Is scanning a real ghost possible, or is this part performance art and part PR? Either way, Kojima is leaning into both technical showmanship and theatrical storytelling as the studio prepares OD for a wider audience.
