Pinhead is making a comeback, and this time he’s starring in a single-player survival horror game for the PS5. Developed by Saber Interactive and Boss Team Games, Hellraiser’s Revival promises a fresh story crafted by Clive Barker himself, the original creator of the Hellraiser universe. If you’ve ever been curious about what happens when pain and pleasure blur into one terrifying experience, this game might just be your next obsession.
Clive Barker has been delving deeply into his darkest ideas to help prepare for this new chapter. The game draws from the twisted world of the Cenobites, those satanic beings who can’t tell pain from pleasure. Fans will be happy to know that Doug Bradley will once again slip into the skin of Pinhead, lending the character his iconic presence.
Hellraiser’s Revival is a first-person experience where you’ll control Aidan, a man who must unlock the dark powers of the Genesis Configuration, a mysterious puzzle box. Your goal? Rescue your girlfriend from a hellish abyss. Throughout the game, you’ll harness the box’s infernal abilities while battling a cult devoted to Pinhead and his Cenobite followers.
“Discover the tale of Aidan, who must unlock the dark powers of the Genesis Configuration, a mysterious puzzle box, to help his girlfriend from a hellish abyss. As Aidan, you’ll harness the box’s infernal abilities to survive your pact with the sinister Pinhead and battle against the twisted cult that worships him and the Cenobites. Fail, and your suffering will be legendary, even in Hell.”
Barker praised the development team’s devotion, saying they had captured the essence of Hellraiser: the seductive pull of suffering and the beauty within the grotesque. He’s eager for players, both curious and brave, to step into this new nightmare where every moment teeters between terror and revelation.
There’s no release date announced yet, but you can already wishlist the game on PS5. Plus, if you’re into collectibles, there will be two different Collector’s Editions available for pre-order. These will include a special Hellraiser Puzzle Box with distinct lighting effects inspired by the game, a statue to display it on, and other officially licensed goodies.
Boss Team Games has a decent horror track record, having worked on Evil Dead: The Game, which got an 8/10 in our PS5 review. That game was multiplayer-focused, so seeing them take on a single-player horror with a legendary IP like Hellraiser is pretty interesting.
