Helldivers 2 Sends Squads Into the Illuminate Void to Liberate Seasse
The live Devoid of Liberty update adds randomized primary objectives, secondary extraction zones, and SEAF support squads to the new frontier.

Helldivers 2 has crossed into the Illuminate Void, and the frontier is already changing how operations unfold. The Devoid of Liberty update went live on August 12, opening a path through the Gateway and sending squads toward the Source Planet, formerly known as Seasse.
Arrowhead Game Studios detailed the new region in a Steam announcement. The broader 7.0.0 update has already introduced new enemies, Void mutations, and support from SEAF squads, but the new region’s operation structure may be its biggest change.
The Gateway opens a path into the Void
During the ‘Census Thunder’ campaign, Helldivers secured large reserves of Voteless tissue samples from the Void. Super Earth’s Ministry of Science used that research to open and stabilize a wormhole on Rirga Bay, creating the Gateway that allowed the counteroffensive to begin.
Once inside, squads are no longer fighting across familiar space. The Void has no visible stars or open skies, while the planets pulled into it have been transformed, mutated, and reborn. Illuminate ruins and ancient technology now cover these worlds, giving Helldivers new targets to document and destroy.
Seasse is buried beneath Void corruption
The main objective is to locate and liberate Seasse, a world that has been consumed by haunting Void flora. Its ruined surface is also home to the Wretch and the Crusher, two Illuminate horrors that make every push toward the Source Planet more dangerous.

Void operations use randomized primary objectives
Operations inside the Void do not follow the more linear structure used in earlier dives. Each mission can assign several randomized primary objectives, forcing squads to adapt their route and coordinate before time runs out.
Helldivers can document their discoveries with a tactical video camera, destroy Illuminate structures, and conduct reconnaissance missions while gathering information about the corruption. The changing objectives add another layer of pressure: completing the mission is only part of the job, since the squad must still reach extraction safely.

Secondary extraction zones give squads another way out
The Void’s dangers also make the trip home harder. Squads can unlock secondary extraction zones on Void planets, giving them another chance to reach the Destroyer after finishing their objectives.
SEAF support squads can assist during these missions as Helldivers investigate the anomaly and push farther into the corrupted region. The goal is to uncover the source of the Void, destroy its structures, and take Seasse back for Super Earth.

Devoid of Liberty is live now. Gameplay requires internet access and a paid-for subscription on console, sold separately. Share your thoughts on the Illuminate Void in the comments, and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, Instagram, Steam, and Telegram.
