Helldivers 2 has hit a rough patch following the Into the Unjust update, and that matters because the studio’s lead has openly admitted to major internal problems that are affecting stability and performance. Players have been vocal, the team is reacting, and the comments could shape how future fixes are prioritized.
In Discord replies, Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Shams Jorjani told players that “the technical debt is crippling.” That blunt admission follows a wave of performance complaints and crashed sessions since recent content additions – and it puts the developer’s roadmap under fresh scrutiny.
Jorjani explained that now that the Xbox release is behind the studio, more attention can go to stabilizing the codebase. He avoided promising a single magic patch, saying that every update should also act as a health update, but conceding “we didn’t hit the mark with this one.” Oof. Community members have repeatedly asked Arrowhead to pause new content and focus on a dedicated health patch. The CEO pushed back slightly – not as refusal, but as realism – noting that not every team member can directly fix performance problems and that many of the issues are complex and time-consuming to resolve.
Still, Jorjani admitted that if a performance-only update is what’s needed, the studio will do it – but warned no single update will erase all technical debt overnight. He also called out the need to balance building new systems with improving existing ones, pointing specifically to the DSS as an area that “deserves more love.” Community manager Katherine “Baskinator” Baskin added that a hotfix for several crashes is being prepared and may land before the current Major Order ends in six days, offering a small but immediate step toward stability.
For now, the message from Arrowhead is that the team knows the game isn’t where it should be and that more focused resources are being considered to address long-standing issues – but the path forward will likely be measured and iterative rather than instant.
