Hell Let Loose: Vietnam will only include “historically authentic” frogs, creative director Matt White said, as the project pushes for tight period detail across uniforms, weapons, environments and even ambient wildlife. During a chat with magazinesdirect, White explained that authenticity covers everything from “the clothes you see on the floors” to “the sound of the bugs” and the frogs. Those amphibians will not be modernized props, they will behave like frogs from the era. 🐸
The team visited the Royal Armouries to capture gun sounds firsthand and hired an artist specializing in foliage to recreate Vietnam’s plant life, rather than relying on generic assets. White also clarified why the team prefers the phrase “historically authentic” over “historically accurate.” World War 2 maps are easier to pin to exact battles. Vietnam is more complex on a battle-by-battle level, so maps will be faithful to the environment, while the development team selects specific locations that work best for gameplay.
Fans who love tiny details will probably be pleased that something as small as a frog’s call got attention during production. The approach suggests the game will lean into atmosphere and sound design as much as visuals.
