Hela: Of Mice & Magic is scheduled to launch on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox Game Pass on Dec. 1, 2026, with its brewing system serving as more than a way to create helpful items. Remedies will affect how players move through the world, solve puzzles, overcome obstacles, and work together. Microsoft explains the system in its Xbox Wire breakdown.
Players take the role of tiny mouse familiars helping a kind-hearted witch across forests, meadows, and wetlands inspired by Northern Sweden. Plants and other magical ingredients gathered during those journeys return to the witch’s cottage, where the brewing process begins.
Recipes make brewing part of play
Brewing will use hands-on recipe steps instead of a simple menu selection. Each recipe combines ingredients with its own actions and sequence, giving players a reason to pay attention to the process rather than just collecting materials and confirming a craft.
Recipes will differ from one another, so experimentation becomes part of progression. Finding a new ingredient can lead to a different brew, while learning how each recipe works gives the cottage activities a direct connection to the wider adventure.

Remedies open familiar spaces
Remedies provide the clearest link between brewing and progression. Rather than only increasing a character’s strength, they can reveal new routes through places players have already visited and offer fresh approaches to environmental puzzles.
A blocked path may become reachable after gaining the right Remedy, while an earlier puzzle can take on a different solution later in the journey. Returning to familiar areas with new tools should make gathering ingredients feel connected to discovery instead of separate from it.

Co-op adds more ways to solve problems
Every puzzle can be completed solo, but cooperative play gives Remedies another use. Players can combine different tools and approaches when facing environmental challenges, creating solutions that may not be obvious when using only one character.
Hela: Of Mice & Magic will support solo play, local split-screen, and online co-op for up to four players. That range of options keeps the full adventure available to solo players while giving groups more room to experiment with the systems they unlock.
Curiosity keeps the journey moving
Brewing ties the game’s small discoveries together. An unusual flower, a stream leading away from the main route, or a plant with an unknown purpose can all become useful once players return to the cottage and test what they have found.
Xbox players will be able to see how that loop works when Hela: Of Mice & Magic arrives on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox Game Pass on Dec. 1, 2026.
