The iconic Firefight mode is making a grand return to Halo Infinite, bringing all the nostalgia and frantic action fans have come to love. Launching alongside Operation: Blue Team on March 11, players can gear up for some intense PvE battles against relentless waves of enemies.
Firefight Through Time
Initially introduced in 2009 with Halo 3: ODST, Firefight has evolved significantly. Players could team up with friends to fend off hordes of Covenant forces, testing their skills and teamwork. From the armor abilities in Halo: Reach to the Warzone Firefight in Halo 5, each iteration brought something new to the table. Now, with Halo Infinite, we’re seeing a return to classic gameplay alongside a fresh King of the Hill variant.
Current Objective: Survive
The formula remains simple yet addictive: you and three teammates against endless waves of enemies. Your primary goal? Survive at all costs.
- One Round: Comprises five Waves of enemies
- Wave 1 is an easy wave
- Waves 2-4 present mid-tier challenges
- Wave 5 culminates in a boss round
- A Set: Consists of three Rounds (plus a Bonus Round)
- This totals 15 waves overall.
If you think you can take on this challenge, be prepared for an endless fight as long as you keep surviving. Stock up on snacks and drinks; it’s going to be a marathon!
The Bonus Rounds serve as mini-breaks between sets, where all Skulls are activated, enemies are set to Easy mode, and no lives are lost—perfect for regrouping before diving back into chaos.
I Will Survive
Your team starts each match with seven shared lives. If someone decides to rush headfirst into battle without thinking, don’t say I didn’t warn you when you find yourself staring at that Post-Game Carnage Report! Playing smart will help preserve your life pool for those tougher rounds ahead.
No one likes dying—trust me, I’ve been there more times than I’d like to admit. At the end of each set, your team earns an extra life, plus an additional life for every 1,000 points scored during bonus rounds. So if you find yourself face-to-face with a Grunt armed with plasma grenades, don’t sweat it too much; there’s always room for redemption later.
We Need to Evac
A new feature in Halo Infinite: players can choose to end their match after completing a set. Before starting the next round, a zone will appear labeled “Complete the mission.” If at least two players enter this zone, extraction occurs and the match concludes. Miss that opportunity? You’ll be committed until either running out of lives or finishing the next set.
If you’ve managed to survive through tough rounds, congratulations! Each new set introduces different Skulls that activate on rounds two and three—adding layers of complexity to your firefight experience. Running low on ammo? No worries; resupplies happen between rounds.
