Half Sword Games has set January 30 for Half Sword’s Steam Early Access launch. The physics-based medieval combat simulator first appeared as a demo in October 2023 and found a fast-growing audience thanks to chaotic, laugh-out-loud fights and shareable clips.
The core of Half Sword is one-on-one and small-scale arena melee where limb collision, weapon physics, and awkward ragdoll moments drive both the challenge and the comedy. Players will slice, bash, slam, and impale opponents with controls that reward precision but can also produce completely absurd results when physics misbehave.
The demo’s popularity helped the game carve out a social-media niche. At the time of writing, more than 6,000 players are using the Half Sword demo on Steam, a figure that reflects only a fraction of the studio’s intended final scope.
A new trailer accompanies the Early Access date reveal; the official video is available on YouTube.
Half Sword Games warned players the studio is still working on stability and performance. The developer said, “Bugs, performance, occasional crashes and other things are being actively ironed out as well as fast as our tiny team can handle.”
Combat is intentionally fiddly. The game uses a progression system where mistakes can result in lost progress, and new players should expect steep failure moments while learning timing, reach, and how physics affect each strike. That unpredictability is part of the draw for streamers and clip creators, but it also means matches can end abruptly when a small error compounds.
Steam’s store page for Half Sword lists the Early Access launch and will be the hub for purchasing and updates. Expect iterative updates after January 30 as the small studio addresses reported issues and refines combat responsiveness. Players who enjoy unpredictable, physics-driven melee and don’t mind a learning curve are the audience most likely to get the most out of Half Sword in Early Access.
