A new Half-Life: Alyx No-VR mod is in development, and it aims to bring the game’s physics-based object interactions to mouse and keyboard users. The project’s upcoming demo will show how players can handle objects without a VR headset, with on-screen tutorials explaining the controls.
The mod takes inspiration from the interaction systems in Penumbra, Amnesia, and SOMA. Rather than relying on motion controllers, players will use the mouse and keyboard to manipulate objects in a way designed for traditional PC play.
SoMNst has already shown the system in an 11-minute gameplay video. The footage comes from the demo build and focuses on the mod’s interaction mechanics, giving a clear look at how its non-VR controls work during play.
That demo will be released publicly soon. Before then, a small group of community members will take part in an initial testing phase and provide feedback. The complete mod does not have a release date yet, so players will need to wait longer before the entire campaign is available through this project.
Half-Life: Alyx originally launched as a VR-only game, but projects like this continue to test how its systems could translate to a standard PC setup. The new mod is still unfinished, though its current demo already shows a hands-on approach to moving and using objects without a headset.
