There’s been a lot of talk around GTA 6 lately, and a leaker who correctly guessed the protagonists’ last names—Jason Duvall and Lucia Caminos—has dropped more info about the game’s development. Rockstar’s delay to 2026 wasn’t just a random move; it was a must to avoid cutting too much incredible content.
In May, Rockstar stunned fans with the second GTA 6 trailer, showing off great graphics and revealing character bios. But the honest tea came from a leaker named GameRoll, who had already shared Jason and Lucia’s last names months before the trailer dropped. That alone gave his info some serious weight.
Why the Delay Was “Absolutely Necessary”
GameRoll shared on X (formerly Twitter) that Rockstar had to push the release from Fall 2025 to 2026. According to his source, rushing the game out in 2025 would have meant losing many interesting features. The team started cutting content to meet the deadline, which would have made the game noticeably worse.
One thing I’ll also say is that this source made it very clear to me that a delay to 2026 was ABSOLUTELY necessary.
If we had gotten GTA 6 in 2025, it would have been a significantly worse game. They began cutting a lot of cool stuff to try and make that deadline. https://t.co/sU7ZZ2D79K

Interestingly, the delay isn’t about GTA Online 2 or any price hikes, which some fans feared. Instead, it’s about ensuring the main game delivers on its promise.
Another insider, YouTuber LegacyKillaHD, who’s been pretty spot-on with leaks, mentioned that a basketball minigame developed at Rockstar’s Toronto studio was nearly cut by the end of 2023. He also hinted that the game might have more gameplay elements reminiscent of Red Dead Redemption 2 than expected.
Basketball minigame was worked on at the Toronto studio. It was on the chopping block at the end of 2023. Always the difficulty talking about a game active in development. Lot more RDR2 gameplay in this than I think some expect.

GTA 6 is currently scheduled to launch on May 26, 2026. But if the wait feels too long, there might be something to hold fans over. Rumors suggest Rockstar is working on a remastered version of GTA 4, possibly releasing as soon as 2025.
