GTA 6 Leak Search Turns to a Private Discord Request From Take-Two
The company also withdrew a separate YouTube request after its focus moved away from a video tied to 3 personas.
Take-Two Interactive has asked a court to issue another subpoena to Discord as it continues trying to identify who shared alleged Grand Theft Auto VI footage online. Unlike the earlier request, the new filing is under seal, so the public cannot see which information the company is seeking.
The request follows the wave of alleged leaks tied to the group known as Cyberleek. Earlier this month, clips that appeared to show authentic GTA 6 gameplay spread online just days before the game’s August 27 Netflix presentation. Reuploads collected millions of views across social media, leading Take-Two to seek information from Microsoft and Discord, followed by subpoena requests involving X and YouTube.
Our earlier GTA VI leak coverage tracked how the material continued circulating despite takedown efforts. Discord marketing director Ryan Rigney previously said the service had not yet received the subpoena and would review its validity and scope once it arrived.
Take-Two keeps the new Discord filing private
TorrentFreak reported that Take-Two’s latest court filing requests a second Discord subpoena focused on 1 previously identified user and 1 additional user. The company wants the details kept under seal, which means the names and specific information requested are not publicly available.
Take-Two argued that revealing those details could alert the people involved to the scope and progress of the investigation. According to the company, that warning could give them time to delete, destroy, or conceal evidence, or take other steps to avoid being identified.
A separate filing changes the status of Take-Two’s YouTube request. The company withdrew its subpoena for information connected to 3 personas apparently tied to a leaked video because the investigation had moved away from that particular video. Take-Two said new information had changed what data it needed from YouTube.
The legal requests show that Take-Two is pursuing several possible paths at once while its inquiry develops. The Discord request remains active, but the sealed filing leaves the next target and the evidence sought out of public view.
