GSC Game World posted a New Year’s message on Steam on December 30, 2025, outlining what the studio says were a year of fixes and improvements for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl and a look ahead to 2026.
The team told players that the game feels “so much smoother and more reliable,” and highlighted the November rollout of the PS5 version. In the same note GSC confirmed that the first story DLC is in development and that the studio is working on an upgrade to a newer version of Unreal Engine 5 to bring improved stability and visuals.
“We’ve been heads-down with the game all year, pouring our hearts into making it better every day,” the message reads, closing with a small atmospheric teaser as a holiday gift and a promise of more details early next year. The full message is available on Steam.
For players that stuck with the Zone through patches and long fixes, the short update matters: a focused engine upgrade plus a story DLC means more content and a technical baseline that should make future updates easier to deliver. The PS5 launch in November also gives console owners a fresh reference point for stability work across platforms.
