Gray Zone Warfare Update 0.5, titled Rogue Ops, is scheduled to arrive on Steam for PC on October 22. It will add player hideouts and crafting, but the launch also comes with a soft wipe that clears equipment and inventory without resetting completed tasks, rank, or vendor levels.
MADFINGER Games has now moved the game from pre-alpha into alpha. The studio says its content pipeline is 30% complete against the game’s full vision, a figure shown in promotional material behind closed doors at Gamescom. Earlier plans placed the Alpha transition in the fall, while MADFINGER had already identified hideouts and crafting as 0.5 plans in March without naming a release date.
A hideout for crafting and progression
Players will receive a home in Lamang with specialized rooms, including a Laboratory, Electronics Workshop, and Utility Room. The Laboratory will support production of narcotics and medical supplies, with players smuggling goods through high-risk areas to earn money.
Rogue Ops also expands the longer-term loop around the hideout and the route toward Ground Zero. Players will be able to transport narcotics, smuggle black-market technology, and follow clues connected to the red cloud at the center of the tactical map. Notes, newspapers, and letters scattered around the world will continue to build out the game’s central mystery.
Players will be able to create up to four characters across different factions and game modes. PvE and PvEvP progression will be separate, and players will choose a server type when they first start Rogue Ops. That choice cannot be reversed. The soft wipe will remove equipment and inventory, but completed tasks, rank, and vendor levels will remain.
New locations and changes across Lamang
Rogue Ops will add the Asylum, Military Research Site, and Radio Observatory, along with smaller locations such as drug huts, apartment buildings, villas, Khmer temple ruins, a rocky city, and more tunnels. The update’s teaser trailer offers a look at the new sites.
New quests, long-term contracts, traps, puzzles, and interactive objectives will give players more to find across the map. Hideout resources will be scattered around Lamang, while a rare hacking tool with three levels of efficiency will open locations protected by security systems.
The world will gain new NPC activities, televisions, voice recordings, audio, and additional storytelling elements. NPCs will also show more passive behavior, including smoking, chatting, hanging out, and talking on the phone. NPC combat behavior is due for an update as well, with enemies able to treat bleeding, use grenades, and make better use of cover.
Medical, weapon, and technical updates
The health system will get a broad revision and simplification. Players will be able to treat larger body parts and craft medical supplies in the Laboratory. The update will also change bleeding, add more specialized medical supplies, adjust the effectiveness of blood bags and drinkables, and make health panels clearer about which treatments a character needs.
Rogue Ops will add seven new weapons. The additions are the G36, FAMAS, G3, Benelli M4, AUG, UMP, and Glock 18C.
MADFINGER is also adding more than 400 attachments and weapon parts, optimizing existing weapons, and introducing realistic camos, updated inspect animations, and weapons tied to specific locations. Suppression will get a redesigned effect that removes the full-screen blur.
Behind the scenes, Rogue Ops will bring new server infrastructure with stronger anti-cheat measures, further optimization, improved PiP scope performance, and an upgrade to Unreal Engine 5.7. The engine update will also improve lighting and clouds.
