THQ Nordic is stirring up excitement with the upcoming release of a free demo for Gothic 1 Remake, set to drop on February 24th. Powered by the visually stunning Unreal Engine 5, this demo will give players a taste of what to expect from this much-anticipated remake, mainly through its unique prologue segment featuring the character Nyras.
It’s designed to showcase the world, mechanics, and atmosphere of the new version of Gothic. Instead of stepping into the shoes of the iconic Nameless Hero right away, players will take on Nyras’s role, a convict who finds himself in the Colony. The story here is loosely connected to the main narrative, allowing you to wander leisurely before diving into what made Gothic a classic.
The anticipation is palpable, especially since some influencers have already gotten their hands on it ahead of time. One such influencer is YouTube’s “ENFANT TERRIBLE,” who captured about 30 minutes of gameplay using an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090. Unfortunately, he skipped out on including performance metrics or graphics settings. So, while we can feast our eyes on beautiful visuals, we won’t know how it performs under pressure just yet. However, another content creator named Cycu1 ran their demo on an NVIDIA RTX 4080 at ultra settings and reported frame rates around 20FPS at 4K resolution.
I’m itching to get my hands on this demo when it launches! Expect my performance impressions once I’ve had my fill. Until then, feast your eyes below:

I think it’s safe to say that fans eagerly await more details as we approach launch day. What do you think about this new direction for one of gaming’s classics? Are you excited about slipping into Nyras’s shoes before embarking on the adventure?
This could be a nostalgic trip for many and potentially a whole new experience for others discovering Gothic for the first time. So keep those gaming chairs warm until then!
