Geoff Keighley’s Game Awards teaser reportedly is not connected to Diablo 4 after all

Journalist Jason Schreier says the desert statue Keighley posted is not teasing the Diablo 4 expansion and he declined to reveal what it does relate to.

Geoff Keighley’s recent what3words post pointing to a spot in the Mojave desert near Joshua Tree sent fans hunting for answers and many assumed the statue found there would tie into a Diablo 4 announcement at The Game Awards.

Console PC Gaming previously covered the initial clue and fan sleuthing around the location in detail in Geoff Keighley shares a clue pointing to a possible Diablo 4 tease for The Game Awards, which notes the what3words phrase regal.inspiring.thickness and the installation showing serpents and demonic figures that light up at night. That line of thinking has taken a hit after reporter Jason Schreier posted on ResetEra saying he does not believe the statue is teasing the Diablo 4 expansion.

“No idea where Jez is getting that, but this statue is not teasing the Diablo 4 expansion. (I don’t currently plan on reporting what it is, sorry, but it’s a good one.)”

Schreier’s comment answers one of the louder theories but stops short of naming what the installation actually points to, leaving the tease unresolved for now. Fans who visited the location described serpentine sculptures and demonic motifs that some compared to art seen in Blizzard’s hack-and-slash, which is what drove much of the Diablo 4 speculation in the first place. The Game Awards later this month remains the likeliest moment for whatever Keighley is hinting at to be revealed, and the mystery will likely end when the show airs.
