Gears of War: Reloaded will not be available on PS5 in Japan because of regional rating restrictions. This means Japanese players will have to stick to Xbox Series X|S, PC, Game Pass, or Steam if they want to play on launch day.
The official Japanese Xbox Wire Site shared that the PS5 version won’t release in Japan due to platform policies and issues with the regional rating system. According to a Gamespark report, the game failed to clear the CERO rating because of its “blood, gory depictions, and intense violence.” That’s kind of a bummer for PS5 owners there who were looking forward to it.
The game is will launch on August 27, 2025. Before that, a two-weekend beta test starts June 13, 2025, letting players get a taste of multiplayer action. You can join the beta by pre-ordering digitally on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Steam, or PlayStation 5, having an active Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass membership, or owning a digital copy of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. Interesting that PS5 players can still access the beta despite the cancellation in Japan.
The first beta weekend (June 13–15) features classic Team Deathmatch on three maps: Gridlock, Raven Down, and Gold Rush. The second weekend (June 20–22) switches to King of the Hill on Canals, with Courtyard and War Machine maps added to Team Deathmatch.
