Borderlands 4 creative director Graeme Timmins has warned that a popular mod, which skips dialogue, could leave some missions in a broken, unrecoverable state. A mod called Dialog Skipper adds a hotkey to skip the current line of dialogue and an Auto Skip option that skips every line. The mod also offers a speed-up setting for long NPC animations, which is disabled in co-op sessions.
The tool’s creator says it is intended for replayability, so players who have already finished the game can move through non-skippable conversations faster. The mod has gained traction in the speedrunning community, prompting some users to ask Borderlands 4 players to lobby Gearbox Software for a native skip option.
Timmins replied on X to a player expressing interest, warning that the request is more complicated and riskier than it looks because of how dialogue ties into the mission system.
“Iâd be cautious using this mod; skipping dialog could lead to broken mission states that might not be recoverable. This request is way more involved and riskier that it appears on the surface with how dialog is integrated within our mission system. Donât ask me how I know.”
