Fortnite’s Impostor Mode is Inspired by Among Us, Epic Games Confirms

Epic Games has finally revealed the secret behind the invention of the Impostor Mode in Fortnite. The game mode is inspired by one of the most anticipated deception games globally, Among Us, as per Epic Games’ statement made on Tuesday. The critics sent in Epic Games’ way are pretty harsh. Most of them imply the lack of creativity as to why the developer didn’t put anything additional, so it differs from Innersloth’s Among Us.

Epic Games has fallen under sharp criticism for not crediting one of their inspirations, and it has happened in the past multiple times. Fortnite’s Impostor is the latest game mode to take inspiration from Among Us. The reference was found in a blog post about Fortnite’s v18.20 patch notes, which outlines some of its recent changes coming with this most recent update.

v18.20 brings improvements to Impostors, the game mode inspired by Among Us from Innersloth!

Everyone considers this an unjust and inappropriate move, considering that Innersloth is just a tiny studio compared to the giant Epic Games. Many Among Us fans pointed to Fortnite and Epic’s massive size, compared with Innersloth’s small studio. Programmer Adriel Wallick expressed her feelings of being “bummed” by Impostors mode in Among Us.

We didn't patent the Among Us mechanics. I don't think that leads to a healthy game industry. Is it really that hard to put 10% more effort into putting your own spin on it though?
