Fortnite v42.10 Downtime Is Scheduled for 4 a.m. ET With OG Season X Content

Matchmaking will end shortly before maintenance begins, with the update also bringing Battle Royale gameplay changes, OG Season X content, and fixes.

Fortnite v42.10 downtime is scheduled to begin at 4 a.m. ET, with matchmaking ending shortly beforehand. Players will have to wait for maintenance to finish before returning to the Battle Royale island.

Epic has not provided a server return time in the announcement, so the length of the downtime remains unclear. Once the update is live, players can explore new Battle Royale gameplay, OG Season X content, and a broad set of fixes and improvements.

OG Season X is scheduled to arrive on September 3, sending a Reality Wave across OG Island and catching familiar landmarks at different moments in Fortnite history. The result is a map filled with unusual landing spots, returning locations, and a few reality-breaking surprises.

OG Season X brings back Dusty Depot and the Meteor

At Loot Lake, the Zero Point hangs in the instant of its explosion. Entering the area around the orb suspends gravity, while the Devourer’s skeleton remains northwest of Salty Springs after its defeat by Mecha Team Leader. Dusty Depot is whole again with all three warehouses standing and no craters nearby.

The Meteor is also back above the island, and players can land on it to look around. South of Paradise Palms, a Rift Zone leads to Pandora. Staying inside the zone and avoiding damage for a few seconds allows shields to regenerate.

B.R.U.T.E. mechs return

B.R.U.T.E. mechs will fall from the sky during the early game. Players can race to the map marker, climb inside with a teammate, and split the controls between movement and weapons. One player drives, stomps, and leaps, while the other operates the missile launcher and shotgun. The mech can also spend materials to overcharge its shield for a temporary defense boost.

Players who would rather challenge mechs from a distance will have the Automatic Sniper Rifle available at launch.

The OG Season X Pass adds three outfits

The OG Season X Pass lets players earn XP anywhere and unlock Oxide, Ultima King, and Kinetic Catalyst Outfits as they level up.

OG Season X loot pool changes

Several familiar items are leaving the loot pool when the season begins, while the B.R.U.T.E., Junk Rift, Automatic Sniper Rifle, and Glitched foraged item will be available at launch.

Fortnite v42.10 Loot Pool Updates

The Sweeper Shotgun returns

The Sweeper Shotgun is back and has been tuned for Override. It now fires with a standard shotgun spread instead of its previous wide pattern. Reloading can be interrupted as soon as shells are loaded, while the weapon fires faster without changing its damage output. Its magazine is slightly smaller, and its maximum range is shorter.

New Loot Hacks

Loot Hacks add a new pool of weapons that players can unlock, upgrade, and customize. The additions are the Caduceus Staff, Scorpion’s Combat Kit, Wrecker Revolver, Deadeye Assault Rifle, and Holo Twister Assault Rifle.

Sprite Dust spent on Loot Hacks can be freely reset and respecced within each set, but it does not transfer to the next Loot Hack refresh. Epic has also lowered the quality cap because the system was producing too many high-powered weapons too often. Hacked weapons now range from Rare to Legendary rather than Epic to Mythic.

Balance adjustments

  • Pump Shotgun: Slightly increased damage and faster equip speed.
  • 8-Bit Shotgun: Reduced damage and faster equip speed.
  • Assault Rifle: Slightly reduced headshot damage multiplier, slightly reduced Mythic damage, and a slightly slower reload.
  • Mega Buster: Increased projectile speed.

New Match Overrides and Sprites

Beyond the OG Season X additions, v42.10 reshapes Fortnite Override with a returning shotgun, new Loot Hacks, fresh Sprites, additional Match Overrides, and a weekend event. Epic’s fixes and known issues post for v42.10 covers the update’s technical details.

Big Head Mode, Prop Hunt, and Action Hero join the current Match Override lineup. Big Head Mode gives everyone an oversized head, Prop Hunt lets players turn into a prop after crouching without moving for several seconds, and Action Hero grants Hangtime while aiming weapons in mid-air along with increased damage. Sharpshooter is coming next Thursday with higher weapon accuracy, reduced recoil, and less bloom.

Match Overrides are now more likely to appear two to three times in a match, while Squad Only Overrides are slightly less common.

Version 42.10 introduces the first two of five Design A Sprite winners, Avila215 and Enorull. Four new Sprites join the pool:

  • X-Ray Sprite: Periodically marks enemies in an area around the player.
  • Onigiri Sprite: Applies Overdrive after the player eats or drinks a consumable.
  • Mega Man Sprite: Reduces friction, allowing players to slip and slide around.
  • Overshield Sprite: Grants an Overshield that scales with Sprite Level.

Mastering a Sprite now halves the Sprite Dust cost to resummon it, making it easier to bring a favorite power into every fight. A new Sprite Mastery track also grants rewards and Gizmos for mastering Sprites, with more rewards planned for each update. Version 42.20 will add an arcade-themed Back Bling to display the Sprites mastered in Fortnite Override.

Some Cheat Code sequences have been adjusted to feel more natural to input, and Mastery Mondays return on September 7.

Power Hours for Cheat Master Sprites

Power Hours will run on Saturday, September 5, with Cheat Master Sprites appearing more often, including the new Sprites from this update. Players will also begin matches with a full set of food items.

  • 2 PM ET to 4 PM ET, or 6 PM UTC to 8 PM UTC
  • 9 PM ET to 11 PM ET, or Sunday from 1 AM UTC to 3 AM UTC
  • Everyone receives one Golden Apple, two Jellyfish, and three Peppers
  • Cheat Master Sprites appear more often
  • Chests may contain 1-Up Tokens and Portable Extractors

Bug Fixes and Platform Improvements

Version 42.10 also addresses a Zipline problem east of Neo Tilted. Two Ziplines that could not be accessed from one end and could eject players early from the other now work correctly.

Several OG Season X environment issues have been resolved. Flickering textures, floating structures, and cables clipping through the floor of the building west of Loot Lake have been fixed. Grass no longer clips through multiple floors and sidewalks across Paradise Palms, an oversized Chest at Neo Tilted has been corrected, and duplicate dinosaur and camel statues at Paradise Palms have been removed.

Frosty Flights no longer has the listed flickering textures or floating wall. Objects at the ruined house at Snobby Shores now fall properly when their supporting structures are destroyed, and a visible terrain gap in the southern area has been patched. Buildings between Snobby Shores and Neo Tilted should no longer disappear, while a duplicate lab structure at Pressure Plant has been removed.

Version 42.10 fixes Locker and Pass interface problems. The cursor now stays on the selected item when players choose Locker sort options, vehicles no longer receive an incorrect Reload tag, the Join Crew button works again, and the Crew Styles page no longer appears empty or displays content from a previously viewed Pass screen.

Several cosmetic issues are also resolved. Emotes no longer cause character models to twist when used while hovering with the Tails Sprite. Evie, Undercover Kor, Wolverine, Indiana Jones, and other Outfits no longer stretch with misplaced heads and arms on the Starter Island. Heatwave PJ no longer plays reactive elimination audio with Reactivity turned off, while Twyn and Joey receive fixes for visual clipping during their built-in Emotes.

The Spider-Sense Emote no longer shows web effects with non-Spider-Man Outfits, MrSavage no longer loses his mask with Reactivity turned on, and the Millennium Falcon Glider’s hyperspace effect no longer outlines areas of the map. The Spacebound Carvers Pickaxe is now correctly part of the Crew Series, and Adanna of the Deep no longer loses her head when viewed from a distance.

Gameplay fixes include a correction for Lobby Hack: INVALIDCHEAT, which is no longer invalid. The 8-Bit Leaderboard has been cleared of scores earned through invalid means, and Custom match scores no longer count toward it. Players viewed from a distance now move more smoothly, and sprinting works correctly when the Forward Diagonal Angle setting is above 70.

Movement animations around Green Hill Zone boost pads have been corrected, as have several issues involving the Sonic Power Sneakers. Rebooted players should no longer receive an incorrectly zoomed camera, spectators now consistently follow Spin Attack users, opening the inventory or map while charging Spin Dash no longer leaves players stuck, and players can reliably hop off grind rails.

The Tails Sprite no longer leaves a persistent pulsing effect on the player’s back. Cheat Codes that were difficult to interact with because of their angle, invisibility, or input problems have been fixed. Storm Scout Sprite’s Overdrive no longer lasts longer than intended, mastering Crown Sprite correctly grants its Cheat Master variant, the Sprite Summon button no longer remains disabled after returning from Reload, and pinging Tetris Rift blocks after their animation ends no longer shows a placeholder icon.

PC improvements

VSync now produces lower input latency, with the largest gains on AMD and Intel GPU configurations at 60 Hz. Performance Mode has also been optimized so low-spec configurations can render at a noticeably higher resolution without additional GPU cost and with minimal visual difference.

Mobile improvements

Mobile players can now find a new Touch Smoothing setting under Touch and Motion. It defaults to 50 percent, matching the v41.20 camera change, while setting it to 0 percent restores the original feel.

With Auto-Run enabled, tapping the Sprint button while standing still now starts sprinting in the direction the player is facing. Running out of stamina during the sprint keeps auto-running active, and tapping Sprint again starts sprinting once stamina recovers.

Auto Fire and Aim Assist now trigger consistently around the Stone Sanctum’s hidden maze walls and doors. The Cheat Code near the ice cubes east of The Battlewoods no longer appears underground, the God Mode Llama’s Secondary Action button works correctly, and the Battle Bus reliably appears and flies normally at the start of Blitz matches on Android.
