Sunkissed City is the new pixel art life sim from Arthur “Mr. Podunkian” Lee, a former Stardew Valley developer. It’s set in a seaside metropolis and offers familiar life-sim activities like relationships, fishing, and farming. But here’s a quirky twist: while Lee decided against adding a “stink gun” weapon, he did include a pungent fruit that lets you torment the cityfolk.
Lee shared on Twitter that after working on some tropical fruits suggested by his Discord community, his girlfriend came up with the idea of a durian that could be used as a weapon. He didn’t go for the “stink gun” exactly, but he thought the durian itself would be a fun addition.
After working on some tropical fruits suggested by my Discord, my girlfriend, who often has, hmm… "creative" ideas, said I should add a "Durian that you can make into a weapon." While I haven't added a "stink gun" (???), as she suggested, I thought Durian would be fun to add. pic.twitter.com/NdujeGN01R

The game shows the player character running into a cafe holding the durian, with NPCs complaining about the smell. One fan suggested animals might also react by avoiding the fruit, and Lee liked the idea. He explained that animals currently approach players when friendship levels are high, but adding a reaction to stinky items like durian might be a fun detail to include.
Sunkissed City doesn’t have a confirmed release date yet, but it will be available on Steam later this year. If you want to know more about Lee’s projects, you might also like his other farming sim featuring animals that produce multiple types of items, like sheep milk used for pecorino cheese. What do you think about the idea of using a smelly fruit to annoy city folk? Would you have preferred the stink gun?
