Nintendo premiered the final trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie during a Nintendo Direct on March 9, 2026, and Illumination confirmed new cast additions including Issa Rae and Donald Glover. Illumination chief Chris Meledandri introduced Issa Rae as Honey Queen and Donald Glover as Yoshi, and said the studio still had more surprises to share about the film, both “big” and “small”.

A previous Mario Galaxy Movie Direct in January revealed Rosalina’s voice and an earlier trailer, and confirmed that enemies from Super Mario Bros 2 such as Birdo will appear, along with brief flashback appearances by Baby Mario and Baby Luigi. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is scheduled to open in theaters on April 1, 2026. Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic returned to direct the sequel, with Matthew Fogel back as screenwriter and Brian Tyler returning as composer. The studio also confirmed three major characters for the film: Bowser Jr, Rosalina, and Yoshi. The film’s final trailer offered the most detailed look yet at the sequel, showing expanded environments and character moments that tie into the 2007 Wii game.
