Remedy just rolled out the first major update for FBC: Firebreak, and it’s packed with changes that tweak progression, visuals, and gameplay balance. If you’ve been diving into this shooter set in the mysterious world of the Federal Bureau of Control, this patch might shake things up a bit.
For those new to the game, FBC: Firebreak is a first-person shooter where teams of up to three players face off against supernatural threats inside a secret government agency. The game shares its universe with Alan Wake and CONTROL, which means you’re in for some seriously weird and eerie encounters.
Patch 1.2.0 makes progression quicker and more rewarding by starting new players at Clearance Level 3 (CL3) for the first Job, Hot Fix. You can still choose to play at CL1 or CL2 if you want, but it’s no longer mandatory. To unlock the next Job, you now have to complete a full three-zone run at CL3. Oh, and finishing a Job at CL3 unlocks the Corruption modifier for that Job, which sounds like it could add some spicy challenges.
Money and upgrades got a serious makeover too. Lost Assets and Research Samples, the currencies for upgrades, now glow so you can spot them easier in missions. Players will earn and spend Lost Assets more smoothly, making unlocking new gear feel less like a grind. Plus, the costs for unlocking stuff have been rebalanced to better match what players actually earn. I mean, who doesn’t want to feel like they’re getting somewhere faster?
The update also polishes up the game’s look and performance. Blood effects have been improved, and some environment parts got fresh updates. Lost Assets and Research Samples now have that glowing highlight I mentioned, so they’re not just easier to find but kinda cooler to look at. Remedy also fixed some bugs and performance issues, though they didn’t get into specifics about those improvements.
Balance changes are interesting here. It now takes less time to build the BOOMbox and Swivel Cannon, which should speed up combat strategies. Hiss Troopers are tougher with more health and a higher stagger threshold, so fights might last longer. The Fix Kit’s Wrench deals damage at all levels now, not just higher tiers. And the Corrupted Stapler item is easier to find and track down. I wonder if that’ll make a difference for players hunting for collectibles or specific gear.
