SCS Software has opened the Euro Truck Simulator 2 1.58 Open Beta experimental branch. Players who join the public beta can test a wide set of systems and features that range from a new Driving Academy module for handling double trailers to deep changes in vehicle physics and a complete redesign of the Route Advisor.
The update introduces a three-chapter Driving Academy module called Double Trailer Handling. The module walks players through forward driving, maneuvering, and reversing with two trailers. Completing every scenario in the chapter rewards the in-cabin toy “Frankie” tied to the in-game profile used to finish the chapter. In addition, an existing Truck Driving Proficiency achievement, “Nerd of the Road,” now requires three stars from 15 scenarios rather than 23, this change is active in the open beta, though Steam may still display the old achievement text for a few days.
Vehicle updates include a major refresh for the Renault Trucks T with two new interiors named Anthracite and Carbon 2024, digital dashboards, camera mirrors, and two new DE13 Turbo Compound engines: the DE13 TC 440 Euro 6e and the DE13 TC 480 Euro 6e. The Renault T also gets two Smart Racer paint jobs and multiple facelifted exterior parts, nine new front grilles, new DE13 front and side badges, and THE BOSS roof grilles that can be painted any custom color.
The Scania R and S receive extended customization options in both the base game and the Mighty Griffin Tuning Pack. Front bumpers now come in three sizes and three color variants, bumper lights have separate locators, a new fog light type was added, and a new front fender with radars can be changed separately from cab steps. Rear fender covers are available in three colors. Steps gained an extra variant and their own locator. Two underlit front logo variants, new roof lights including a V8-specific version, and new front mid lights round out the additions.
IVECO S-Way gets a new 6×2 chassis with a steerable and liftable middle axle. The S-Way model also received general bug fixes and optimizations.
Physics and vehicle behaviour were revisited to prepare for new vehicle categories in upcoming content such as Coaches and Road Trip. Throttle response is now calculated from a throttle torque engine map and engine resistance when off throttle has been adjusted to make coasting feel more natural. Wheels now camber off-road like a solid axle suspension and turning wheels include caster. Turbocharger audio was tuned to better reflect engine load. The engine now revs slightly to build torque before moving off and a hill start assistant was added. Keyboard users get an optional double-tap throttle control so holding the key applies partial throttle for cruising while double-tapping gives full acceleration. More technical details are available on the SCS blog here.
UI and tutorial changes include a redesigned tutorial system that injects contextual hints during normal gameplay instead of relying on a single linear tutorial. The Route Advisor is replaced with a widget-based system so players can pick and position individual information widgets for a cleaner on-road HUD. SCS tested the redesign with fans at SCS Fan Day and with external testers prior to the beta. The Pause Screen has been reworked into a Quick Info feature to centralize controls, truck information, job details, and local regulations. Some data previously on the Advisor, such as job details and damage, was moved to Quick Info to keep the on-road display less cluttered.
The Truck and Trailer Configurator and the Explorer received targeted usability fixes, better navigation, and more hints to improve controller and mouse workflows. Management screens for drivers, trailers, trucks, and garages were refined for clearer information where hired drivers’ skill progress and selected skill training are easier to see. Company name and logo editing is now more accessible.
Map updates prepare the world for coaches and bus stations. Players may notice new signage, road markings, and larger bus station areas added in selected cities. The 1.58 beta follows the 1.57 update that reworked player company logos and paint jobs 1.57 update, and forms part of a larger push to ready core systems for new content in ETS2 and American Truck Simulator.
Players who want to participate can opt into the Open Beta from the Steam client. Go to LIBRARY, right-click Euro Truck Simulator 2, open Properties, select the Betas tab, and choose public_beta from the Beta Participation drop-down. No password is required. SCS asks testers to report bugs in the dedicated section of its official forums at forum.scssoft.com. The update is experimental and may contain instability, crashes, or other issues, so waiting for the stable release is fine for players who prefer not to test.
