Escape From Tarkov recently underwent a major update known as the “Hardcore Wipe,” which reset player progress and altered core gameplay elements, leaving many feeling overwhelmed and trapped in a grind. Now, the developers are quietly making some reversals in response to the community’s strong reaction.
Last week, Battlestate Games launched a sweeping patch that reset everything for players, including progress, economy, and even the availability of maps. While the studio warned about some changes, the extent of content reduction and progression slowdown caught many off guard, sparking frustration and boredom among the player base. Yikes, right?
Two main issues stood out. First, only two out of eleven maps were fully playable, with the rest accessible solely through in-game transit, which made the experience feel cramped. The devs have now scrapped that restriction, allowing all locations to be selectable again. This should open things back up and hopefully relieve some of that claustrophobic vibe.
Second, boss spawns were initially guaranteed at 100%, which made raids brutally hard for solo players but easy loot runs for coordinated teams. Battlestate has dialed this down to a 70% spawn chance. It’s not a huge drop, but it might balance things better between solo and group play.
Nikita Buyanov, head of Battlestate, mentioned they plan to gradually reintroduce features like trader loyalty and locations to bring back a gameplay feel closer to the original Tarkov. He also didn’t hold back when addressing some of the harshest critics, bluntly telling them to “shut the fuck up.” Russian devs have a way with words!
