The notorious tactical first-person shooter is facing a genuine difficulty. Escape From Tarkov, developed by Battlestate Games, is facing a powerful server choke in moments when the game is booming in popularity. The issue is not only caused by player overload but also anonymous and organized denial-of-service (DDOS) attacks, as stated earlier today by Nikita, BSG’s COO.
In today’s live broadcast, Nikita Stated the following:
“There’s a lot of, like, I don’t know how to say it. There are people, I don’t know, organizations who really do not like our success, and as a success, I can’t say about it at all it’s a success 100%. Of course, yeah, it’s popularity, and I f***ing hate it actually. These kinds of people or organizations are trying to make things worse by attacking our servers at the same time.”
You can take a look at the video below:
While the developer hasn’t provided the real concurrent player numbers, based on data given before, our rough estimation would be that over 500,000 players are unable to play Escape From Tarkov at the moment. Combined with the brutal DDOS attacks, the game is currently in a rough spot, and we genuinely hope that Battlestate Games will resolve this issue in a fast manner.
The most recent queue mechanic added to the launcher itself can obviously not prevent the overloads effectively, and they are still prevalent in the past couple of days. If I were to guess, other Triple-A studios are mad because of their inability to develop a similar video game title.
As the developer stated in an earlier tweet:
Dear players,
Our servers are currently overloaded, but this is not related to the Twitch Drops event we're running. On the release of Patch 12.12 we had more CCU and the backend was more overloaded than now #EscapefromTarkov

Some issues show themselves only under heavy load (like the one we're currently experiencing) and "buying more servers" won't fix these issues. Such heavy load occurs during prime time only and it's been far heavier than one or two years ago, as the game became more complex

…of backend optimizations.
The queuing mechanism in the launcher has been introduced in order to prevent the backend servers from overloading and avoid game-related issues resulting from that overload

This is a temporary solution. We’re working to reduce queues as soon as possible and our goal is to eliminate them completely.
Our team will continue to work during the holidays until we resolve these issues

Escape From Tarkov is still in closed beta, and it doesn’t represent a final product.
