Escape From Tarkov “Payback” Quest Guide
Payback is a one-raid Reserve task that combines four kills, a yellow flare at the radar station, and a Cliff Descent extraction.
Payback’s main constraint is fitting its kills, flare, and extraction into one Reserve raid. You must kill Glukhar or his guards four times, fire a yellow flare at the radar station, then survive and extract through Cliff Descent.
Requirements and objectives
Payback unlocks 10 hours after completing Return the Favor. The quest objectives are:
- Locate and kill Glukhar or his guards for 4 kills total on Reserve in one raid.
- Fire a yellow signal flare at the Reserve radar station in one raid. This objective appears after you complete the kill objective.
- Survive and extract through Cliff Descent in one raid.
Equipment needed
- For the flare: Bring either an RSP-30 reactive signal cartridge (Yellow), or a ZiD SP-81 26×75 signal pistol with a 26x75mm flare cartridge (Yellow). The flare objective does not require a found-in-raid item.
- For Cliff Descent: Bring a Red Rebel ice pick and Paracord. You must not be wearing an armor vest when you use the extraction.
The optional objective to bring a yellow flare into the raid does not make firing it optional. The flare task still requires you to shoot one at the radar station.
How to complete Payback
- Get the four kills. Find Glukhar or his guards on Reserve and reach four kills total. The flare objective appears only after this is complete.
- Fire the yellow flare at the radar station. The required location is the radar station area on Reserve. The flare needs to reach sufficient height to register. If using the handheld RSP-30, aim it upward, but avoid an angle so steep that it falls behind you.
- Extract through Cliff Descent. Use the Red Rebel and Paracord, and remove your armor vest before extracting. The quest specifies a surviving extraction through this exit.
Both flare options are listed without a found-in-raid requirement. The RSP-30 yellow flare can be purchased from Prapor at Loyalty Level 1. The 26x75mm yellow flare cartridge can be purchased from Jaeger at Loyalty Level 1.
