Epic Games charms exclusives by paying the developers in advance

Nothing strange, nothing weird, it seems that Epic Games is trying to build their store and chunk some exclusives, harder than ever. The only bizarre part of this is that… they’re paying a huge price to do so. This has been confirmed as Rebellion Developments the creator of Zombie Army 4, which is yet another company that received money by Epic Games.

To be or not to be, to designate a side, to choose which digital reseller you’re going for may be quite beneficial nowadays for the game developers. It’s not only the revenue share in question (which is quite fairer on the Epic Games Store) but also the payment in advance.

Being offered money to create an Epic Games exclusive isn’t strange at all, but this also pulls a string if other companies are being offered the same price. Most likely, yes, as it may cause a riot otherwise.

In a conversation between Jason, journalist Seth Barton and Chris Kingsley, as published on gamesindustry.biz the following was declared.

Generally I think I would prefer not to do exclusives but I understand Epic’s position with it, and quite frankly they are paying through the nose to build their store,” said Jason. “All credit to them, it’s fantastic, and we’ll take some of their money, thank you very much.

There’s nothing else necessary to discuss, especially when you have the answer served on a plate. Epic Games is indeed paying through their nose to build the Epic Games Store.

After all, it’s just how it works, and similar to the console industry, the PC industry is dealing the same with multiple digital retailers competing for the very top. Currently, Steam is the definition and leader, but building a competition, Epic Games will.
