Embark calls ARC Raiders a 10-year game and won’t publish a public roadmap before launch

Design director Virgil Watkins says Embark is planning long-term live support and is avoiding a roadmap to prevent broken promises; ARC Raiders launches Oct 31 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

With ARC Raiders due on Oct 31 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, Embark Studios is pitching the shooter as a long-term project and is deliberately not handing players a public roadmap before launch. During a Twitch stream at TwitchCon, ARC Raiders Design Director Virgil Watkins was asked about the game’s post-launch future and why there’s no roadmap. His answer spelled out the studio’s reasoning: this is meant to be a 10-year game, and Embark wants flexibility rather than a schedule that can become a string of broken promises.

Watkins said, “I think internally, for a very long time, we refer to this (ARC Raiders) as a 10-year game. So that is the ambition we’re aiming for and that kind of dictates the type and quantity of content that we want to put into it.”

He added, “We are not at this stage, going to discuss roadmap details that stuff can quickly spiral into promises that can go unfulfilled if things change, but of course adding things over time like new maps, and extending questlines, and introducing new enemies, new weapons and things like that .” The point was clear: plan long, talk short, and then build based on how players actually engage once the game is live. That cautious stance lines up with other design moves Embark has made recently, including the studio’s decision to pivot ARC Raiders toward a PvPvE direction after admitting earlier builds weren’t working as intended, which the team covered in a previous report on this site about the pivot to PvPvE.

Player interest ahead of launch looks solid, ARC Raiders’ Server Slam weekend drew a big crowd, with the event hitting a large concurrent player count on Steam, which gave the studio a strong stress test for live operations. Embark says it has some post-launch content scheduled, but the exact cadence will depend on how the launch plays out and what the community signals. For players that like specifics, that means no promises in a list you can hold the studio to, but it also means the team plans to react and add content like maps, questlines, enemies and weapons over time based on real-world usage. ARC Raiders launches Oct 31 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
