If you’ve been trying to jump into Elden Ring Nightreign recently, you might have noticed that matchmaking takes an unusually long time or sometimes doesn’t work. Despite the game boasting over two million players, FromSoftware has admitted to these matchmaking issues, and the few suggested workarounds haven’t been very helpful, especially on PC.
The studio’s initial advice was to restart the matchmaking process if it takes too long. I’ve tried this and many others on Twitter, but it hasn’t made a difference. The only other suggestion FromSoftware has offered is to change your NAT connection type on PlayStation, which is a bit of a hassle and not something I’m keen to do on my PC setup just for one game’s matchmaking problems.
Players on Xbox and PS5 have reported similar troubles, and communities on the Elden Ring subreddit and Steam forums are filled with complaints about long wait times. Believe it or not, despite having between 200,000 and 300,000 players online on Steam alone, finding a match can feel like a needle in a haystack.
The situation is puzzling. Logging in works fine, and connections are stable once you’re in a game. There’s none of the usual chaos you might expect from a server meltdown, like dropped matches or long login queues. It’s just the matchmaking that’s the bottleneck.
For now, the best advice is to queue with a team of three players if possible. It’s frustrating to see such a popular game struggle with something as basic as matchmaking. Why is it so hard to get into a game when so many players are online? Hopefully, FromSoftware will have a proper fix soon because it’s a bit of a mess right now.
What’s your experience with Elden Ring Nightreign matchmaking? Have you found any tricks that work better? Let me know in the comments below—I’m curious how widespread this is and if anyone has found a better workaround.
