According to publisher Bandai Namco, Elden Ring Nightreign has stormed out of the gates with 2 million copies sold on its first day. That’s quite the feat for this three-player co-op spin on the Elden Ring universe, although solo players might find themselves in for a tough time.
The official Elden Ring Twitter account shared an image celebrating the milestone: “Thank you: 2 million Nightfarers on the first day.” The post poetically added, “Darkness fell over Limveld, and two million Nightfarers rose against it.”

But here’s the twist for solo adventurers: Bandai Namco has announced a patch, version 1.02, to make the solo experience less punishing next week. While Nightreign is built around three-player co-op, it can be played alone, though many find it much more challenging.
Patch 1.02 Details
- Several bug fixes
- Improvements for solo expeditions
- Introduction of “Automatic Revival Upon Defeat” effect for solo players, granting one revival per night boss battle
- Increased rune rewards in solo mode
It seems Bandai Namco heard the feedback loud and clear. The patch should help smooth out some rough edges for those preferring to brave Limveld without companions.
On Steam, Nightreign got off to a strong start, hitting a peak of 313,593 concurrent players just an hour after launch. That’s the second-highest concurrent player count for any FromSoftware game on Steam, trailing only the original Elden Ring. This number may climb even higher over the weekend.
Despite the impressive player count, the user reviews on Steam are mixed. Complaints mostly revolve around the absence of a two-player mode, a perceived lack of depth compared to other FromSoftware titles, and technical issues affecting some high-end graphics cards. Yikes.
So, what do you think? Are you diving into Nightreign solo or sticking with friends? Will the upcoming patch change your mind? Drop your thoughts below—I’m curious to hear your take on the solo experience and the game’s performance so far.
