Escape From Tarkov’s New Year Event Ends Tomorrow

Battlestate Games and Escape From Tarkov have been on a roll recently, thanks to the exciting Winter Event. Thousands of players have joined the ride and bolstered Tarkov’s popularity to extremes. The winter event was also combined with Twitch drops, which could be one of the reasons for the extreme server overload and increased in-game popularity. Sadly, the ending of the Winter Event in Escape From Tarkov was confirmed for tomorrow, January 9.

The developer stated the update would take two hours of server maintenance and will face extension if necessary.

“Tomorrow, January 9 at 13:00 MSK, we plan to install an update that concludes the New Year’s in-game events. The installation will take approximately 2 hours, but may be extended if necessary. The game will be unavailable during this time. Players will need to download the update via the launcher afterwards.”

January 8 is the last day of the Twitch Drops event in Escape From Tarkov, which schedule makes every Tarkov streamer eligible for having drops ON. Therefore, you will have the freedom to watch your favorite Tarkov streamer and still get the in-game goodies for free. This event will also eradicate our beloved Santa Clause from the game and every other feature coming with it, such as the Christmas Tree. So if you have something to build in the Hideout, this is the very last day to do it.

The closure of such an event could result in less populated servers, as it happened over the past years. It’s always weird, but according to Tarkov’s history, whenever there are Twitch Drops enabled, there’s a disproportionate number of players hooked on the game. So, I am looking forward to seeing if this settles things down…

How have you loved Tarkov recently? Is the queue mechanic a bit too much? Let us know in the comments below!

While I did not mind the que mechanic so much, I do hope it is not here to stay. Having (most i saw was 80k) people wait in line for 30-45 minutes is a lot better than having NO ONE be able to play when the server gets overloaded. That being said, even with the que mechanic there were still 2 times the game was unplayable with back end server issues. Ideally, I would like to see an offline mode that could be played during these times to help ease the blow of not being able to play online. The game already has this mechanic, but still requires access to the server to load the game as the game is linked to your profile. The logistics of implementing an offline mode seem like they would be pretty expensive to me as the game does not even load without connection to the server, That is a fundamental concept of game developing that I will never understand. I guess it was just cheaper to program it that way.
