EA Sports College Football 26 has just received its first update, version 1.004, on all platforms. While it doesn’t bring any new features or content, this patch addresses some gameplay bugs and clarifies recent changes, which is helpful during this early Season 0 phase of the football sim.
Released on July 15, the patch download is now available, although EA has yet to provide an official changelog. From what players have reported, a few bugs have been fixed, including a pesky play art glitch. However, some issues remain, such as Team Builder Dynasty crashing, random freezes, and an inability to snap bug that EA has acknowledged but not yet resolved.
Gameplay-wise, the developers are actively monitoring player feedback. They recently addressed a rare problem where left-footed kickers sometimes can’t attempt field goals if the kick might be blocked. The team promises a fix in an upcoming update.
Another interesting point is the stiff arm move, which some players feel is too powerful. The developers are collecting data, but remind players that the stiff arm has a built-in counter: flicking the right stick down to trigger a “Cut Stick” move, which trips the ball carrier. They urge players to practice this counter in the game’s practice mode.
Pass Protection Mechanics Clarified
The dev team also shared details on how pass protection works now, eager for more authenticity and control:
- Authenticity: Each pass play has distinct protection set by default. For example:
- Under Center plays use base protection.
- Gun formations use “empty” protection if all pass-eligible players run routes, with half-slide protections adjusted based on the play type.
- Responsiveness: You can adjust protection quickly by flicking the right stick, once for a half-slide, twice for a full slide left or right.
- Control: Flicking the right stick up lets you un-target a defender, which can be strategic if you want to leave someone unblocked based on your play call or opponent’s formation.
The developers aim to empower players to feel in control of their pass protection schemes, enabling more strategic decision-making.
While this update doesn’t squash every bug or add new content, it’s a steady start for EA Sports College Football 26. The team seems attentive to community input, which is promising for future patches.
