EA Moves to Shut Down Portal XP Farms as Battlefield 6 Peaks on Steam

Battlefield 6’s busy launch and a surge to nearly 750,000 Steam players has prompted EA to act against players and creators farming XP in Portal servers with bots.

Battlefield 6 arrived with a hectic launch, including a long queue to log in on Friday and a peak of nearly 750,000 concurrent players on Steam. That mark is a record for the most popular full-priced shooter on the platform, and it explains why progression speed has become such a hot topic. Players have been discussing the game extensively, and critics have also weighed in: the title currently holds a “Mighty” rating on OpenCritic, with much of the criticism focused on the single-player campaign.

Still, most of the community is focusing on multiplayer, where time spent unlocking weapons and upgrades matters a lot. Some people are trying to shortcut that process. Creators and players have been using Portal servers and bots to farm experience, skipping the usual grind. That activity has drawn pushback because it can produce lopsided matches, and EA says it is moving to stop those exploits.

Exploiting XP Gain In Battlefield 6 Can Lead To An Unfair Experience For Some

There are several reasons why players are trying to rush progression. Some feel unlocks should come faster; others want to test top weapons as soon as possible. PlayStation Plus subscribers also have a separate advantage that affects part of the playerbase, which adds to the sense that progression can be uneven across platforms.

Filling Portal servers with bots to earn XP bypasses the intended progression system and can make matches unpleasant for folks who can only play in shorter sessions. There are already concerns that Battlefield 6’s time-to-kill ratio feels unfair, partly due to issues with hit registration and server desync. Players had hoped the game’s day one patch would resolve those issues, but some problems persist.

I know I'm not the best player, but wow is this this TTK unforgiving not sure if its my connection lag or something but wondering if others are also experiencing this.

One comment summed up a common frustration: “Multi-player games suck now because everyone seems to no life them and use meta builds. Unless you’re willing or somehow have time to do the same its impossible to get good and you’re simply cannon fodder for the nerds.” That feeling matters because it determines whether people continue to return and play.

EA is taking steps to curb the farms and close loopholes that let bots or staged Portal matches grant disproportionate XP. That doesn’t solve every complaint about pacing or unlock speed, but it does try to protect the integrity of matchmaking while the community finds its footing after a massive launch.
