Funcom is rolling out a new safety net for Dune: Awakening players: a Base Backup Tool that can store an entire base, plus most of its contents, as an item in a character’s inventory. The change arrives as part of a wider slate of updates that include character transfers and server merges, features the studio says will land within the next few weeks.
The tool is meant to stop the worst survival MMO gut punches – the kind that come when you log back in after a break and find your home broken, looted, or destroyed. With the backup tool, players will be able to package their base for relocation or safe storage while they step away from the game, then restore it when they return or move to another World and Sietch.
Alongside the backup item, Funcom plans to let players move characters between Worlds, carrying inventory, progress, and bank or backup tool storage with them. These changes were laid out in the developer update posted on Reddit and summarized in our own coverage of the October 2025 developer update.
Other items on the roadmap include cargo containers that can be hauled by ornithopter, improvements to the player logging system to record in-game events like withdrawals and building actions, and ongoing balance adjustments such as a Rapier rework and tweaks to disengagement mechanics.
Some of these systems connect to fixes already deployed, like the vehicle recovery option that prevents sandworm attacks from meaning permanent vehicle loss; the backup tool looks like the next step in protecting long-term player investment in the world.
The developer also said the team is transforming the Landsraad into a contract-based system with repeatable PvE activities, expanding character specializations, and finishing Chapter 3 of the main storyline, which is planned for Q1 2026.
For players who have burned out after losing bases, the backup tool should be a welcome change. The feature does not promise immunity from all griefing patterns, but it gives teams and solo players a practical way to pause without the threat of permanent disappearance of their builds.
