Funcom revealed plans for Chapter 3 of Dune: Awakening that aim to overhaul the game’s endgame and make it easier for players who have been away to return. The developer posted details on Steam and said the update responds to player feedback and in-game telemetry.
Funcom wrote on Steam that “When it comes to the endgame, the specifics of what you’re looking for varies across both players and player types,” and that the team combined community input with cold, hard in-game data to shape the changes.
Funcom will abolish the existing tax system. The studio also plans to introduce resource “return packages” to help players who have not logged in for 28 days get back up to speed. The change is meant to reduce the immediate penalties that could block a returning character from rejoining the game.
Chapter 3 will expand late-game progression and content options for players approaching endgame. Funcom described the update as delivering a “richer and more engaging endgame,” and added that the work is ongoing. The developer acknowledged the update will not satisfy every player but said more changes are planned. “Our work is far from done,” Funcom said.
Community complaints since launch have often centered on endgame systems favoring large groups over smaller guilds and solo players. Funcom has previously committed to addressing those concerns through multiple updates and roadmap items. One earlier developer rundown from October 2025 laid out near-term and longer-term plans for Chapter 3 alongside logistics features such as cargo containers and transfers, and that update helped set expectations for the current changes.
They frame Chapter 3 as a response to two specific player requests: broader endgame content and a smoother experience for returning players. Removing outstanding taxes and adding return packages are the concrete systems intended to address the second request. Funcom also noted the studio will keep iterating after Chapter 3 and will share more information over time.
