Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is finally getting a next-gen update for its PC version, more than two years after the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S editions received theirs back in January 2023. Bandai Namco announced that this update will be available on July 17th as a free upgrade for existing PC owners.

The update focuses on visual enhancements, including improved lighting, enhanced vegetation, more realistic water effects, and refined fluid dynamics. Some higher-quality textures are also included in the upgrade, giving the game a slightly fresher appearance. However, it’s important to keep expectations in check, this isn’t a full remaster. The game won’t suddenly look like a brand-new 2025 release but will have subtle polish here and there.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot originally launched on PC in 2020 and ran smoothly on a wide range of hardware without demanding high-end CPUs or GPUs. CyberConnect2, the developer, delivered a solid PC experience with proper keyboard and mouse support, no mouse acceleration issues, and generally stable performance. For many players, it was a dependable way to enjoy the Dragon Ball story arcs without technical headaches.

After such a long wait, this update should please PC fans who have been waiting for parity with the console’s next-gen versions. It’s kinda reassuring to see the developers finally bring the PC visuals up to speed, even if it took a while. Sometimes, better late than never really applies.

Below is a comparison video shared by Bandai Namco that highlights the differences between the original and updated PC versions. You can judge for yourself how much the visuals have improved.
