Dragon Age Remasters Are Possible, but BioWare Co-Founder Says They Would Be a Difficult Technical Job
Trent Oster said his experience with the technology behind Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2 gives him a clear view of the work involved.

A return to the original Dragon Age games is technically possible, according to BioWare co-founder and Beamdog CEO Trent Oster. That does not mean a remaster or remake is currently happening, though, and Oster warned that the work would be far from simple.
Oster addressed the idea in a post on July 30, 2026, responding to discussion about whether the early Dragon Age titles could be remastered. “In my opinion, it is possible, but in no means a trivial exercise,” he wrote.
I've seen a fair bit of chatter about the impossibility of remastering Dragon Age. I like to think of myself as someone who talks a bit, but more often lets my work speak for me. In my opinion, it is possible, but in no means a trivial exercise.

His view comes from direct experience with the series’ technology. Oster said he led development on both engines that were combined to create Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2, giving him an unusually close look at the systems a modern project would need to revisit.
That distinction matters. Saying a remaster can be made is not the same as saying BioWare or publisher EA has approved one. A project covering the original trilogy would still need to account for the games’ connected technology, aging tools, and the work required to bring those systems to current hardware.
Oster’s comments also contrast with the more doubtful outlook shared by former BioWare director Mark Darrah. Darrah previously said fans should not expect an original-trilogy remaster on the scale of Mass Effect Legendary Edition, even if such a release could sell very well. He also questioned whether BioWare would bring the series back at all while EA has so many dormant properties.
For now, Oster’s statement offers a technical opinion rather than news of a project. It leaves the door open for a Dragon Age remaster, but there is no confirmation that one is in development.
