Dota 2’s Dark Carnival starts with a free chapter and a pile of new rewards

The first chapter, Midnight Run, is live in-game for every player and adds five Automaton Personas, 20 hero sets, and a companion comic.

Valve has opened The Dark Carnival, a new ongoing event in the Dota 2 universe, and the first chapter, Midnight Run, is live in-game now and free for all players.

Legion Commander and Hoodwink are the leads this time, and the chapter sends them through a fully voiced story built around Ringmaster’s prison train, a convoy of spider-legged robots, and the kind of secrets that fit Dota’s darker side. Valve also points to a companion comic for players who want more backstory.

Today’s update adds five Automaton Personas, mechanical takes on classic heroes that come with new animations, effects, icons, and more. It also brings 20 new hero sets, with some tied to a new treasure and others unlocked by exploring the map and the story.
